Obituary of Jon Todd Penner

Jon Todd Penner, a man of great faith, passed away on April 13th, 2023, in Los Angeles, due to cancer. He was 63 years old. Jon was born on August 1st, 1959, in Hutchinson, Kansas, the son of Rupert and Marlene Penner (Voran). He grew up alongside his siblings, Mark and Kimberly, followed later by his brother Bruce. In 1982, Jon married his wife Judith (Bundy). Jon and Judith settled in Santa Clarita in 1995, where they raised their three children: Melody, Timothy, and Rachel. Melody, who is married to Jeremy Gonzalez, has three children of her own: Caleb, Eliana, and Julia. Jon is survived by his father, Rupert; his sister, Kimberly; his brother, Bruce; his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marlene, and his brother, Mark. Jon earned a Master's degree in Computer Science from Cal Poly Pomona and went on to become a highly skilled software engineer. During his career, he made important contributions to NASA's James Webb Space Telescope and the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy programs, among other projects. Jon was an active member of Lake Hills Community Church for nearly 30 years. In his youth, he was a talented French horn player and traveled around the world with the Continental Singers, playing in the orchestra with one of the groups. He also sang with the Menno Choraliers for many years. Jon fought his battle with cancer hard until the very end. A memorial service will be held on May 13th at 3pm, at Lake Hills Community Church, where Jon was a cherished member. Those who knew Jon appreciated his strong faith.
