Obituary of Everett Robert Newman

Everett “bud” Robert Newman,age 91 of Lancaster, CA passed away peacefully at his home on July 23, 2020 Bud was born on April 8 1929 to Alferd B. Newman and Margaret E. (Stothard) Newman in Tarrytown, N. Y. He was the youngest of seven children and the last surviving sibling from his generation. In high school, he enjoyed working on cars and played the trombone in the marching band. He graduated from Alexander Hamilton high school, Elmsford, N.Y. in 1947 Bud was in the New York National Guard for a short time. Bud worked at a variety of jobs including that of a grounds keeper and grave digger at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, and cab driver and auto mechanic at red herms gas station.He met his future wife, Alice M. Richardson in 1948 while she was working as a soda jerk at Whelan’s Drug store. They married in 1951.The couple lived in Tarrytown in the Franklin Courts projects where their four eldest children were born. After moving to California in 1959, their two youngest sons were born. Bud continued his work as auto mechanic and worked for Galpin Ford and Pacific Bell. In 1965 Bud attend college at night to study computer programming and acquired a job working for Pacific Western Mortgage, now Weyerhaeuser Mortgage Co. His beloved wife Alice passed away in 1998. Bud moved to Simi Valley, CA in 2006 until 2017. In his final three years, he decided to relocate to Lancaster, CA to be near to his daughter and caregiver Marilyn . Bud was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings and their spouses: Hazel (Newman) and Robert Laird; Robert and Charlotte (Munson) Newman; Dorothy (Newman) and Franklin McFadden; Ada (Newman) and Harry Lucey ; Helen(Newman) and Milton Duncan; Ruth (Newman) and Kenneth Ritchie. Bud is survived by his six children : Michael Newman, Plainfield, IN; Margaret “Peggie” (Charles) Scarrott,Gilbert, AZ; Marilyn “Lynn” (Dana) Belcher, Lancaster, CA ; Marlene Scarlett, Etiwanda, CA; Matthew “Matt” (Beatrix) Newman, Tempe, AZ; Mark “mayor of Granada Hills” (Janine) Newman, Granada Hills, CA and sister-in-law Mary (Richardson) Saso, Littlerock, CA and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren,and a number of nieces and nephews. Due to the Corona virus pandemic, all memorial services have been postponed until after the new year.
