James Kirkwood

Obituary of James Kirkwood

James Kirkwood, was born on December 1, 1932, the third child of Rev. Charlie and Lillie Mae (Hadnot) Kirkwood. Upon completion of Gilder High School in Colmesneil, Texas, he served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. Everyone that met James saw him as a kind, gentle giant. After leaving the military he spent his adult life living in Los Angeles, CA. On Tuesday, December 22, 2020, he departed this life after a long battle with illness. James leaves to mourn four remaining brothers - Rev. Clarence Kirkwood, Elder Daniel Kirkwood, Pastor Glen Kirkwood, and Tuggie (Odell) Kirkwood. We knew Uncle James had some health challenges these past ten years, so it was a blessing to hear that Uncle James dedicated his life to Christ. We no he is no longer suffering and he is definitely in a better place. What we remember most about Uncle James was his kindness. Every time he came to see us when we were children, he always came with some kind of treat. We loved to see uncle James coming! We absolutely loved his most unforgettable hearty laugh. In addition to the fun stuff, he was just genuine. He was just a very honest, very loving, and a very thoughtful Uncle. So we all say, that in this lifetime, if you have the opportunity to meet someone who is genuine, kind, honest, and unchanging, you have met someone who has blessed your life. And that’s what Uncle James was to us. He was a blessing because he was just a good man who loved us all unconditionally and we loved him in return. So, this is all John and Betty’s children, his siblings and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends saying goodbye to Uncle James. We love you, for we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were to dissolve, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 Corinthians 5:1, Therefore we are always confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8 Take your rest in the Lord Jesus world without end.
