In Loving Memory of William (Bill) McDuffie McAfee July 29, 1944 - January 30, 2024 Bill McAfee, a cherished husband, father, and friend, whose warmth and kindness illuminated the lives of those around him, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on January 30, 2024 at his home in Westlake Village, CA at the age of 79. Born on July 29, 1944, in Port Arthur, TX, Bill was the second of four children to parents Jerry and Geraldine McAfee. He grew up between Port Arthur and Oakmont, PA with his siblings – Joe, Rita, and Tom. After attending Oakmont High School, Bill received three degrees—a BS in Electrical Engineering from University of Texas, an MS in Computer Science from UCLA, and an MS in Biomedical Engineering from USC. He was also a proud member of UT’s marching band playing the saxophone. Bill worked in computer science for over 30 years, with roles at Rancho Los Amigos Hospital, Southern California Gas Company, and the Conejo Valley Unified School District. Outside of his meaningful work, he enjoyed many outdoor activities, playing tennis, skiing, and sailing. While working at SoCal Gas Co., he met Bonnie Heathco. They were married on May 28, 1988, and they shared 35 fulfilling years together. They had two sons, Scott and James, and lived in Westlake Village, CA. You would often find their family adventuring through the country in their RV, hiking, biking, enjoying sporting events, playing board games, and stargazing. Bill lived a deeply meaningful and faithful life, dedicating himself to his family. Besides his smile, his warm hugs, and his adventurous spirit, what his family will miss most is the loving look he could give you to reassure you that everything was going to be okay. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Geraldine McAfee, and his older brother Joe McAfee. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his two sons, Scott and James (Sarah); his sister, Rita Johnson (David); his brother, Tom McAfee (Jan); and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2024 in Westlake Village, CA. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society to support prostate cancer research. The family of William McAfee thanks you for honoring his memory and lasting legacy of kindness, adventure, and generosity.
