Marilyn Mae Summers, age 92, passed away on December 21, 2025.
Marilyn was born on September 12, 1933, in Fennimore, Wisconsin, to Harold and Dorothy (Harrower) Yunek. She was the eldest of five children and grew up alongside her siblings: Robert, William, Kenneth, and Carolyn (Yunek) Overseth. She married her high school sweetheart, Melbourne Eugene Summers, in 1951 in Cherry Valley, Illinois.
Marilyn devoted much of her life to raising her four daughters. She and her girls were active in Girl Scouts, making many happy memories together. She resided in Ventura County for over 46 years, raising her family and working in the community. Her successful work life included roles in banking, bookkeeping, and as an office manager for two busy orthodontic practices in Newbury Park.
She loved spending time outdoors with her family, especially on camping trips and traveling in the motorhome she and Mel shared. Together they enjoyed many four-wheel-driving adventures with family and friends. Marilyn also took a strong interest in current events and sports, especially enjoying NASCAR and motorcycle racing, which often sparked fun family conversations. Her creative spirit found expression through painting, knitting, and quilting. She was especially skilled in crocheting, gifting many beautiful baby blankets and doilies, and donating crocheted infant caps to hospitals.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Mel; her daughter Donna (Summers) Tognetti; and her four siblings.
She is survived by her daughters Deborah Adams (husband Steve), Denise Morrison, and Diane Summers (husband Jimmie); her grandchildren Wesley, Sarah, and Amanda (children of Donna), and Eric and Danielle (children of Denise); as well as several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A brief graveside service will be held on January 13, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks–Griffin Memorial Park, 5600 Lindero Canyon Rd., Westlake Village, California.
