With heavy hearts but full of fond memories, we announce the passing of our beloved Mimi Wong of Lancaster, California. Mimi left us on July 14, 2025 at the age of 85 after a long illness. She was born in Queens, New York to Lee Quin Ying and Chin Toy Shoon.

She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, William K. Wong and their daughters Susan Klawiter (Thomas Klawiter) of Palmdale, California and Nancy Barrett (Timothy Barrett) of Duxbury, Massachusetts. Additionally, she is survived by three beautiful granddaughters, Julie Klawiter, Alyssa Klawiter Lord (David Lord) and Katherine Barrett. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph Shoon (Rebecca Shoon) of Middle Village, New York.

Mimi was preceded in death by her parents, Quin Ying and Chin Toy Shoon, as well as her sister, Jean Ho.

Mimi was raised in Queens, New York and graduated from Newtown High School in 1957. She met her future husband William on a blind date in 1956 and they married in 1958. In 1969 they moved to Guilford, Connecticut. For over 25 years Mimi worked at Yale University in various departments including the Art Department, Endowment Department and the Epidemiology Department. Mimi was an animal lover, and for pleasure enjoyed gardening, doing crossword puzzles, going to concerts on the green and collecting seashells on the beach.

In keeping with the family’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral. We invite you to post your fondest memories in her honor in this online memory book. She leaves behind a great community of loved ones who will forever carry her strength, her humor, and her boundless love in their hearts.
