Alberto Michael Vasquez Obituary

Alberto (Al) Michael Vasquez passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at age 69. At the time of his death, he resided in Lancaster, CA, with his wife Jo (Schwagerl).

He was born on May 15,1956 in Los Angeles, CA to Mike and Nelly Vasquez (Romero). He grew up with his sister Josie and a large extended family including many many cousins. After receiving his Associate’s Degree in Radio, TV, and Film from Los Angeles City College, Al started working at Levitz Furniture Store, where he and Jo met and fell in love, marrying on Valentine’s Day of 1981.

Al took a job at the Walt Disney Studios working in the mailroom, and quickly found his way to the Audio-Visual department at Imagineering, where he worked for the next 30 years. He enthusiastically documented film releases, park events around the world, and captured live action footage for animated features. Al spent his years at Disney building strong relationships with his coworkers, making people laugh, and traveling the world to share his passions, all while wearing his favorite outfit: shorts and a Hawaiian shirt.

A man of enthusiasm and a love for life, Al’s passions included sports, music, travel, and nature. An avid Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Dodgers fan, Al made sure to watch every game, in winning seasons and in losing seasons, celebrating his teams and never wavering in his support. He also loved exploring National Parks, from Denali in Alaska to the Everglades in Florida, always with a cooler and a deck of cards or Yahtzee dice in his bag. He and Jo spent many evenings listening and dancing to jazz music, either at live shows or through his curated playlist on their back patio. They always enjoyed good food, good music, and each other’s company.

His love of life was contagious, and he touched many lives with his friendly, warm personality. He would want us to celebrate his life and to continue living as he would: full of love, joy, endless energy, and passion. He will be missed but not forgotten, and forever in our hearts.

Al is survived by his wife Jo, and his two children: Joni (wife Sophie Stanish) and Eric. Al is also survived by his sister Josie Velasquez and nephew Phil (wife Rachel and daughter Lindsey).

A memorial service took place on Monday, June 30, 2025 at Valley of Peace in Lancaster, and was followed by a celebration of life at the Vasquez family home.
