Janice Louise Meyer Obituary

Janice Louise Meyer passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at the age of 89 after enduring a long health battle. Janice was taken care of in her final months by her devoted daughter, Sharon Miller and her husband Ed, and her loving son Keith Meyer and his wife Wendy.

Janice was born on 15 December 1934 in Quincy, Massachusetts to Louis and Gertrude McCarron. She was a graduate of North Quincy High School and Catherine Labouré School of Nursing in Boston. She served nearly 9 years in the US Air Force as a nurse in Colorado, Alaska, Nevada, and the Royal Air Force in Lakenheath, England. She attained the rank of captain in the USAF and retired while living in Clovis, New Mexico.

Janice was married for 44 years to Richard F. Meyer (US Air Force retired). She was a resident of Lancaster, California since December 1985.

Janice was an avid golfer for several decades. In her younger days, Janice never passed up a chance to travel! She loved her pugs and won several awards in dog shows during the late 1960’s. She hid chocolate around her house. She collected all kinds of knick-knacks including beanie babies, Hummel plates, pewter spoons, and pug paraphernalia. She tried her hand, usually successfully, at many types of hobbies such as knitting, pottery, gardening, and Mah Jongg. Throughout her life, she was a devoted reader of Reader’s Digest, People magazine, and thousands of books. She loved biographies, westerns, and historical fiction. Her favorite shows were westerns, Dodger games, Judge Judy, Cheers, and of course, Jeopardy.

Her grandchildren, who called her Nan, Nana, or affectionately, BaNANA, have fond memories of sleepovers, playing board games with her, and raiding her mini fridge. For many years the highlight of our year was Christmas Brunch with Nan.

Janice loved being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son Keith (Wendy) Meyer, and their children; Abigail (Mosiah) Castillo and their daughter, Travis (Kiersten) Meyer and their son, Ethan Meyer, and Dylan Meyer. She is also survived by her daughter Sharon (Ed) Miller and their children; Brittany (fiance, Kyle) Miller and their son and daughter, Aislynn (Donald) Jones and their son and daughter, Jacqueline Miller, Lauren Bohannan, Anthony Miller and his son, and Justin (Liah) Bohannan and their two sons and daughter.

She is also survived by her brother George McCarron, her sister Ann Marie (Tony) Pytlinski, and her ex-husband, Richard Farrior Meyer Jr. of Fairhope, Alabama.

To honor her wishes, a private family memorial will be held for Janice on June 22nd. At a later time, her ashes will be interred at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO.

Janice was a light to her family. She never failed to demonstrate her love and she relished opportunities to brag about each and every one of us. She leaves us with years of memories, stories, and gratitude.

Mom, thank you for everything that you taught us, and for how you loved us, our kids, and our grandkids. Your kind demeanor, sassy sense of humor, and strength will live on through us.
